Earlier this year we told you about rumblings of an immersive new mobile app for fans of Stargate SG-1 (story). Well, the app has come to fruition, and is available for (free) download in the iTunes app store starting today.
“Stargate Command: The App” promises high-quality, 3D graphics in a virtual environment that will let you explore the corridors of the S.G.C. on your iPhone or iPad. Users can also find key items from past SG-1 missions, uncover artwork from the show’s archive, and play Stargate SG-1 trivia.
Developer Arkalis Interactive promises future updates and enhancements to the app, including a series of mini-games. The first will let players drive golf balls through the Stargate (a la “Window of Opportunity”) in the free “Stargate Golf” game.
The app is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and the third generation “new iPad,” and requires iOS 4.3 or later.
Check it out now at iTunes, and post your impressions below!
UPDATE: Check out this link for an intriguing look at some of that artwork, including a hint at “the future of Stargate SG-1.” Thanks to VOOK64.
(Thanks to Andy for the tip!)
Too bad it`s just available for crappy apple products….
Are you sure, that this was the game you’ve written about?
It’s an other studio, and there was a multiplatform thing they said. But it’s not multiplatform.
There seems to be some unseen artwork in the locked room: http://www.vooks.net/forums/index.php?/blog/1/entry-496-stargate-command-mini-hands-on-hints-of-sg1-future/
Nekomajin: Yes, this is the same project reported on in the previous story.
@Darren
Thanks!
lol, I hope it comes out for Android too.
Darren – you should keep an eye on the official Stargate SG-1 facebook page. they said if we got to 1,000,000 likes by yesterday (which we did) then we’d get something cool today. It’s probably just a wallpaper or something, but it might be cooler. They are celebrating the 15th anniv
Don’t have an iphone. Oh well. I was hoping for something a bit more. (like the SGA and SG1 movies!)
JMB: The cynical side of me wonders, based on the timing, if the promised reward is this app download, which was scheduled for release today regardless. But I hope the hand behind the SG Facebook account proves me wrong.
Well, that wasn’t worth months of anticipation leading to this announcement.
need one for android!
bah! why no android?!
I am getting tired of Apps in General. And the only Apple I want is the one you eat.
Crashes on the loading screen on my 3GS. Looks interesting.
It seems we are the game being played
Given that they’re trying to release this to a geeky scifi crowd, doing an iOS release was incredibly stupid. Any geek worth anything is on Android.
I like it. I hope they make levels were we get to go through the stargate and fight some goa’uld and jaffas. :)
Cool! Even though it’s a pretty cheesy, simple app, I have always wanted to walk around Stargate Command, and I missed all the other game incarnations, so this is really cool!
It’s a neat and simple app that could be a great one. While there is nothing special about, you are just walking around a limited area and hitting golfs balls thru the stargate. It would be awesome when you go into hammond’s office you could access mission logs- watch full episode via streaming as well as the novels that have been published. also, an extensive profile of the tech with blueprints, planets, allies, enemies, etc. It will be interesting to see the updated games will be like. This app has the potential to really extend the series in a more… Read more »
release it for windows phone and android, or there will be more people that are mad that they cant play it than people actually playing it…
Hmmm, Apple. Yawn!
Cool Stargate golf but too bad like always it’s for Apple stuff that I don’t like, it needs to be on Android, Windows phones and it would be cool for pc’s too.
Doesn’t it say something that the only positive news about Stargate to come about in some time is spoilt by childish fanboy behaviour. Your degenerative, pointless trolling posts impress noone, and only serve to cheapen the quality of your cyberworldly existance.
Personally I’m excited to see what this app brings, downloading now (yes, on my iPhone 4).
Very intriguing! I’m looking forward to updates. I got a score of 400 on the golf game. I’m playing it on my iPad 2.
“Colonel O’Neill! What the HELL are you doing?!”
“In the middle of my BACKSWING?!”
I’m hoping there are some great updates in time for next month’s con in Chicago, I would love to talk to others about it. I’ll be bringing my iPad with me.
they are doing the opposite of how others approached this before, baby steps instead
[…] iPhone o iPad? Si las respuestas son afirmativas, quizás te interese saber que ayer se publicó una aplicación que te permite visitar el interior del comando Stargate, que tantas veces hemos visto en la serie. […]
@wilkono
Sorry if your not talking about me, Stargate is for everyone so there should be thought into products like this cool golf game to develop the game so everyone can play not just the few that can afford Apple products which happens too many times when I see something I would like to have then I can’t get because it can only be played on something I can’t afford.
Android version please.
please make an android version or windows phone i don’t have a useless iPhone just a WP and android tablet was hoping for something bigger
Windows Phone is only about 2% of the market, I think, last time I looked. So unfortunately for WP owners, I don’t see it happening. Whereas Android was around 60% and iOS was around 30% (not sure whether tablets were included in the data). So I really hope they are getting this ported to Android. It would have been smarter to start there any way, I think.
It is very tiresome that Android is always ignored by the Apple Drones.
Just shot golfballs through an open wormhole, and got 24,400 in Easy Survival Mode.
“That’s got to be a record!”
“Allison, what the HELL are you doing?!”
“In the middle of my BACKSWING?!”
And yes, Allison is my real name.
Did anybody else read what Daniel was saying. About potentially the future of stargate (this is in the locked room)
android app? not everyone is in the crapple phone cult
