Mercedes-Benz has found their newest spokesperson in Richard Dean Anderson, who is reprising his classic character Angus MacGyver for a new series of unique car promotions.
The promotional site states that the company is producing “three brand-new episodes of MacGyver” to mark the international launch of the new Citan, reportedly out in Europe in October.
Episodes will be posted to the Web site (though we expect something more like webisodes or extended commercial spots, rather than anything approaching a full-length, 44-minute television series).
MacGyver ran on ABC from 1985 to 1992, and was followed by a pair of TV movies in 1994. Anderson, of course, went on to portray Jack O’Neill on Stargate SG-1.
Visit the official site to watch a preview of the promotional series.
In other RDA news, the actor has announced that he will make his very first appearance at the Dragon*Con event in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of this month (August 31 to September 2). Autograph and photo op tickets can be purchased exclusively from Legends Canada.

(Thanks to Alexa and Carol for the tip!)
I cannot wait to see a now 62-year old MacGyver doin’ his thing again, and I’m sure it will be as good as the Mastercard Commercial in 2006. You go Richard Dean Anderson!!!! :-)
I wish I was going to Dragon Con to see him, but I’m excited about Creation Con this weekend, because it means I get to see Michael Shanks. :-)
This makes no sense at all… How is MacGyver remotely connected to Mercedes-Benz? You’d think they would’ve gotten a James Bond.
MacGyver routinely drove a Jeep CJ7 or a classic Ford? Truck.
As much as I like MacGyver and RDA, seems like an odd choice for a German Car Company.
$85.00 just for an autograph….? I nearly choked when I read that!
How can someone charge $85.00 for an autograph? Daylight robbery. IMO Of course.
I once saw a MacGyver episode in Italian. “Presto MacGyver! Presto!” LMAO.

Not really, James Bond is even less linked to Mercedes…. Aston Martin? Yes, Lotus? Yes, BMW? Yes. Mercedes? errr not really…
Anderson should have been cast in the Expendables sequel.
Maybe the third, you know there will be one.
I enjoyed the preview and I’m looking forward to it. How long do you all think it will be? Like 20 minutes in total, or maybe not even that?
They’ve got RDA oddly airbrushed in the photos on the website like the one above. It just looks really weird. He’s looking good as is, there’s no need to try to make him look like he’s younger than he is. I’m just happy to see that he’s back in good enough health to be able to do something like this.
Can’t wait to see it!
Finland’s tv started to show MacGyver -series again. How nostalgic it has been. Plots seem pretty naive and funny and the tricks won’t work in the real life. Often the trick are based on something real, but usually the effect would be far less than what it is in the episode. Like when MacGyver crack the door open using 1 gram of sodium. ! gram of sodium would not explode the door…it would not do even a crack. Well interesting and funny still…is there gonna be MacGyver movie? Should be interesting to see.
