Episode of the Week: ‘Small Victories’

SG-1: Season Four
First Aired: June 30, 2000

O’Neill and Teal’c risk their lives to keep the Replicator bugs from gaining a foothold on Earth, while Carter helps the Asgard fend off a Replicator invasion.

“Small Victories” Facts:

  • The episode picks up where “Nemesis” left off, as a pair of Russian submariners discover a Replicator. The translated dialogue is something like: “What’s that noise?” “Maybe it’s that bug from the last episode!”
  • In an outtake from “Small Victories” the animatronic Thor puppet reaches up and grabs Carter’s backside after a take … which prompted actress Amanda Tapping instinctively to reach down and slap the puppet.
  • Teal’c returns from several days living off-world with a little chin beard — a brief concession to actor Christopher Judge. It would take a few more years (Season Eight, to be precise) for producers to concede to letting Chris grow his hair.
  • From this point on Stargate Command is using Earth’s beta gate (dug out of the Antarctic ice in “Solitude”). That will be the case until the second gate is destroyed by Anubis in “Redemption,” after which the S.G.C. will have to lease the alpha gate back from the Russians.
  • The start of Season Four brought about significant changes in the Stargate production offices. After three years SG-1 co-creator Jonathan Glassner left the show, while Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie joined. The duo would stay with the franchise for 11 years, see promotions to Executive Producer, and write more than 70 episodes.

  • Again, not a bad episode at all but, how in the hell did they keep the bullets from bouncing in the sub?
