SG-1 is called to defend the people of Abydos from the Goa’uld once again when Daniel Jackson returns with a warning that Anubis, in search of a powerful device, is about to attack.

“Full Circle” Facts:

The sixth season finale made for a thematic capstone to the series in some important ways, especially the death of Skaara and the destruction of Abydos — key to the original Stargate film and the beginning of the story. It was, in fact, written to serve as the series finale — if SCI FI Channel chose not to renew the show after its first year on the network.
At this point, in fact, the writers were gearing up for an SG-1 film (featuring Anubis as the big-bad).
Actor Michael Shanks wrapped up his year away from the show with an epic guest appearance. He would return full-time in Season Seven.
One of the key, long-term elements introduced in this episode that would set the stage for the future: the discovery that the Ancients built a “lost city,” which Daniel believes holds the key to defeating Anubis. That city, of course, turned out to be Atlantis.

Technically speaking...

The "lost city" was a "city lost in fire", which turned out to be Taonas. It did hold the key to defeating Anubis (the ZPM), which ultimately led them back to Earth, to the drone chair under the ice of Antarctica. And it was THERE that they discovered how to get to Atlantis.
