Stargate Atlantis and Firefly actress Jewel Staite is starring in a new Canadian legal drama, and it’s coming to U.S. screens this fall.
The CW has announced that Staite’s Family Law will make its U.S. premiere Sunday, October 2 (8/7c) on The CW.
Staite stars as Abigail Bianchi, a personal injury lawyer and recovering alcoholic who is reluctantly drawn into the family legal practice of her estranged father (played by Victor Garber) and her half-siblings (played by Zach Smadu and Genelle Williams). Now Abby is trying to put her life back together while navigating her new family and the problems of the families she is representing in the courtroom.
Staite played Dr. Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis, as well as the Wraith girl Ellia (“Instinct”).

Staite played Dr. Keller as a regular cast member in the fourth and fifth seasons of Stargate Atlantis.
Garber is best known for his co-starring roles on Alias and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but he does have a Stargate credit to his name as well. He played the Langaran Ambassador Ovirda in the SGU episode “Seizure.”
Former Stargate director Andy Mikita also works on the show as an executive producer.
Set and filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Family Law premiered on Canada’s Global last September with a 10-episode first season. Global renewed the show for a second season ahead of its debut, and in May green-lit a third season as well. The show also airs on Sky Investigation in Italy, and Nine Network in Australia.
The series is created, written, and executive produced by Susin Nielsen (Degrassi) and produced by SEVEN24 Films and Lark Productions for Corus Entertainment’s Global (Canada).

It’s always good to see Victor Garber on screen. I’ve enjoyed his appearances on The Orville.
On The Orville he was good yes. I didn’t like his character much on Legends of Tomorrow.
