I couldn’t wait until this show premiered. I had seen the movie at the theater, and was completely blown away. The idea of combining Egyptian mythology with alien visitation was such a different idea from your standard sci-fi show. Then I heard that Richard Dean Anderson had signed on, and that Showtime had given them a two-year guarantee, and I was more than ready to set aside Friday nights.
And the pilot didn’t disappoint. If anything, it was even better than the movie and I was hooked. In fact, SG-1 was the only reason I had Showtime, and when Showtime let it go, I let Showtime go.
The team. The stories. The guest characters. The recurring characters. Everything combined to make an out of the ordinary sci-fi experience. Even people who don’t really like sci-fi seem to like SG-1, if they give it a chance. And that’s good storytelling.
