And why do you guys neglect to report the region 4 DVD release of the SGU extended pilot that came out a few days ago here in Australia?

Probably for the same reason that they’re not reporting that TV6 Sweden has bought the rights to air SGU (on March 5th).
It’s just not big news in their eyes.
Or it could be that they know nothing about it.
Pick your favorite.

“In the United Kingdom, however, the studio is releasing a full season in July, rather than this mid-season release of the first half. Look for it on July 5”

Completely fine with me, don’t see the point in half season boxsets tbh.

The thing is, we don’t know if there’s gonna be a blu-ray version of the full season release. I want those damn bonus features!

SGU Season 1.0? No thank you! Half a season of SGU for a SRP of $50? Who’s the marketing genius who thought of this?! Even at $30 for half the season it is too much! I’m a huge SG fan, but I won’t buy this. It is just too much money for too little. I should be able to buy the entire season for this much money. Besides… you know the price will go down eventually or they’ll release a complete season set for the same amount… How many of us bought the GIANT brick-sized SG-1 season sets for $50… Read more »

COOL – thanks thanks for this update. We here in Pegasus galaxy finally gets SGU! Yaj! (TV6 keeps running SG1 and SGA so that’s great). And btw Darren, of course you should be interested in Pegasus galaxy :D

I always like the commentaries and special features but $50 is just a little too much for this one…

“learn more about the back half of the season — which producers promise will meet many of fans’ expectations”. Lets certainty hope so. It would be a shame for the stargate to never be activated again because of this one season disaster.

@66skylark- There was a dual pack of season one, I think it is, and season something of another show for under $15 at my local wal-mart. I always wait to buy the complete seasons because the prices always drop dramatically.

I am not paying 10% more for half a season that I show little interest. Like one of the podcast says. They didn’t buy season 7 of SG1 because they wanted to voice that they didn’t like that season, I guess its my turn to voice mine

This is great! In no time at all both the DVD and Blu-ray version will be in the $10 discount bin. Can’t wait! :)

LOL. I own the boxsets of SG-1 and SGA, as well as the movie DVDs for every SG-1 movie and the Original. But Stargate Universe will NEVER grace the Stargate section in my library. I wouldnt take it even if it were free. Not into soap operas.

I’d rather pay twice the price for just ONE SG-1 or SGA movie instead of this misery of a show…

I’ve watched both SG-1 movies and the entire boxsets at least half a dozen times and will carry on doing so cos I’ll never get fed up of it but SGU I just can’t get into no matter how I try. Assuming theyre any good I’ll be keeping the 2 episodes with Michael Shanks (Human and Subversion) but it’ll only be on the harddrive of my Vbox NOT on dvd

Remind you of the dvd release of Battlestar Galactica anyone? season 4.1 realised and then the 2nd half later, least there was a year between them, not 6 months like SGU will be, and Battlestar was interesting, will not be buying this.

Probably one of those strange cases where the extras are better than the movie. In any case I won’t be paying that kind of money for season 0.5 to catch up on something I can’t watch. I’d give it a go if I had an TV with image stabilization. I bet they don’t shake and zoom the camera when fearless leader is talking in the extras.

I’m spending my money on the complete battlestar galactica series on blu ray instead. Why settle for a knock off?

I’m sorry, but by ALL definitions 1.0 is the same as 1. That makes this product a case of false advertising and shouldn’t be allowed. This is not season 1, it’s half of it. If they’re gonna go with the stupid numerical naming, then by all rights it should be 0.5 not 1.0. However any regular marketing person with half a brain would have called it SGU Season 1 – Part 1 instead. Naming issues aside, half seasons are a thinly cloaked way of getting more money from you and any sensible consumer should avoid them like the plague. Most… Read more »

I think we should still buy these releases and show we are still interested in the franchise.
Perhaps, that will lead them to be more willing to fund the movies by showing that we still believe in the DVD format.
Maybe not? but why not try it?
IF they see these sets even still sell that might convince them to put the movies into higher regard and quicker production.

That’s just my thoughts.

When the BR entire season set is $30 in the bargain bin, I’ll get it -maybe. In today’s Economy, I don’t know how the studio can ask this outrageous price of us. I’m enjoying watching SG-1 and Atlantis on DVD and the movies on BR too much to care about watching Stargate Galactica (err, Universe) over again… :(

SGU is simply not good enough to warrant my money. Still they have tried to fill a half series dvd with loads of cheap extras. Very sad.

SGU at this point has no replay value to me so there is no way I would shell out $69.95 for the Blu-Ray, really I wouldn’t pay $29.95 for it either. The second half of season one will really have to grab my attention, and season 2 will have to blow me away before I think about buying SGU on Blu-Ray or DVD. I also own all the SG-1 & SGA TV episodes & movies on DVD.

Matt, I’m not going to buy the Universe DVDs to support the franchise because they’re going to be nothing more than dust collectors on my shelf. I don’t want to rewatch Universe. It’s a waste of my money.

I’d rather buy multiple copies of Atlantis and Sg-1 DVDs. At least it send the message that I’m interested in those shows and not Universe.

Matt said we should still buy the DVD’s to show our interest in the show… Respectfully, I strongly disagree with that sentiment. As a consumer, the biggest say you have in the products companies put out is whether or not you decide to purchase them. With SGU season 1.0 (Which, as some folks have pointed out, is actually false – this set is season 0.5.); they have put out a product the majority of fans don’t want. Personally, I want to see the second half of the season before I decide to spend my hard earned money on the DVDs… Read more »

I don’t think we should buy this DVD set just so that we can ‘support the franchise.’ Even if we buy the DVD’s there is no reason to think that the movies will be made. Season 5 of Atlantis sold very well, but that didn’t help the Atlantis (or the SG1) movie get made. Why will the SGU DVD’s be any different? Also, releasing 1/2 of a season for full price was not a wise decision. People keep comparing this 1/2 season release to BSG– but even BSG released their first season as one set (and they put in the… Read more »

I paid the $51.00 at Best Buy at lunch today. I can’t believe they charged that for .5 a season. The extras are going to have to really kick to justify the cost. At least its blu-ray.

This is yet another insult to Stargate fans. They’re releasing HALF a season on DVD and charging a ridiculous price for it? I want to know who actually wants to see any of these episodes a second time. I had them all recorded on my DVR and could have watched them in HD and commercial-free as many times as I wanted. I deleted every one. I, too, own all the SG-1 and SGA episodes and movies on DVD. I keep trying to tell everybody, the good writing is alive and well over at Sanctuary.

BOOOOO, Hisss

Where is the HD versions of Atlantis on blueray? Not this junk. The season is not even over and already they a pushing out blueray disc and Atlantis only got 1 bluray?

I know ever episode of it was shot in HD i have seen it with my own EYEs in HD Where is the blueray season box sets of every episode?

And where is the blueray for the stargate SG1 that might have been shot in HD?

Ordered from the provided link, can’t wait for delivery. I think what you guys don’t realize is that it will probably not drop in price for another decade. BSG half-seasons on DVD are still launch price, at least at the brick-and-mortar stores. What would make a Blu-ray release lower price faster than DVD? Besides, I think the vast amount of special features warrants a purchase.

@frellwit I actually picked up season 2.0 and 2.5 of Battlestar Galactica at Wal-mart for $15 each just last week (they also had season 1, 3, and 4.0 for $15 as well). The prices do come down– you just have to wait for it. I plan on buying this set eventually as well, but not for the current asking price (especially when so many other DVD box sets are so cheap now– like The X-Files, and I saw several Star Trek seasons for $20, and my wife loves Little House on the Prairie and Wal-Mart is selling two seasons together… Read more »

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

HALF = 0.5

When you sell half a season, you should call it SGU 0.5, not 1.0.

frellwit

I see it like this … SGU: Season 1.0 begins season 1. There is no season 0. 1.5 means you’re halfway to season 2. season 2.0 begins season 2. Not hard to figure out. :

I have to agree with other posters here.
I own all Stargate SG1, Atlantis, and the movies.
I will not pay for half a season! I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. Half a season? I really think the networks are pulling a cash grab here by taking advantage of fan loyalty.
I will not buy a half season at what should be a full season price. This may well be the season I do not own, at least not until it hits the bargain bins.
