Daniel is taken captive by an alien with a hidden agenda, while SG-1 is made to believe he is dead. As the team mourns their fallen friend, Daniel is interrogated by Nem.
“Fire and Water” Facts:
- Daniel … well, let’s just say he died a lot over the course of 10 years. Here is not a real death — though it comes with terrifying fake memories and a full funeral service. Though we’re at the mid-point of the first season it’s not even Danny’s first death (which, if memory serves, came when he was shot dead by Apophis in “The Nox”).
- From the beginning the show had a close relationship with the United States Air Force. Here, at Daniel’s funeral, we see a real U.S. color guard in action.
- This is one of our first glimpses inside of what looks to be Jack’s house, where the team gathers for Daniel’s wake. We’d later see the team here off-duty in episodes such as “Lost City.”
- Only 12 episodes into the series, and we already have a re-used Vancouver actor! Under Nem’s fishy prosthetics is actor Gerard Plunkett, who played Tuplo from the Land of Light in “The Broca Divide.”
- Nem’s technologically-advanced, underwater species is never seen again on the show. But if you pay close attention, they do get a name: the Oannes.

After seeing this episode again, I really wish they would’ve touched on this storyline again. I think it could’ve had a lot of potential. One thing I read somewhere the Belos or Belus is also Marduk which we encountered in the episode ‘The Tomb’. It was this Goa’uld that killed the alien’s wife. At any rate, it was a good episode.
What, fate, Omoroka!?!
Wasn’t Daniel’s first death in the film? He gets to wake up in a sarcophagus and everything…
haha. WHAT. FATE. OMOROCA!
gotta love it!
Yes, I love this episode. It’s heartbreaking that Daniel’s dead and then the interesting old Babylonian gods, they definitely should have followed up on this story.
