If you’re not terribly fond of watching Stargate Origins in 10-minute bites, not to worry — the complete story will be recut as a feature-length movie.
MGM’s official streaming site Stargate Command has announced that the “Stargate Origins Feature Cut” will be released soon as a digital download on the site.
It will also be the first of the Stargate franchise to see a release in 4K Ultra High-Definition format.
Set in the late 1930s, Origins tells the story of Catherine Langford (Ellie Gall), daughter of the archaeologist whose expedition discovered the Stargate buried on the Giza Plateau a decade earlier (“Stargate” the Movie). Now a young woman, Catherine must go to unimaginable lengths to rescue her father after he is captured by a Nazi occultist bent on acquiring the power of the gods for himself.
The Web series has been running in 10-minute “episodes” on the site since February 15. The 3-part finale drops this Thursday, March 8.All-Access paid subscribers will receive a special code that allows them to download the new cut for no additional fee.
While there is no word yet on whether MGM will eventually make Origins available elsewhere, the existence of a feature cut does seem to bode well for a DVD and Blu-ray release down the road. While we dig for more information from the studio keep it locked on GateWorld for the latest! And head over to our Stargate Origins episode guide to read about the series.
I hated the idea of minisodes but I might actually sign up for a feature edit. I’d still rather get it on Blu-ray than sign up for another streaming service.
I love the original Stargate film. Among other things, the movie’s special effects were stellar. So sure enough I had to buy it again when it was released on Blu Ray. While watching in Blu Ray, I was able to see a lot of the flaws in the special effects. I can’t imagine how back SGO will look in UHD with its budget sets, props and effects.
how bad*
;)
This is great news I can’t wait to watch it all at once! I hope they do release it on blu ray too!
This started out badly. The characters were asinine. But ultimately it ended well. It did nothing to preclude the TV franchise. Just one more story for me to buy. If the guy wants to put out another film, go for it.
Now they must move forward and restart SGU.
…and then reboot SG-1!
It’s like Star Trek and Star Wars and super-hero shows. X-Files. Why should they ever stop making these shows? Just keep ’em coming!
Any idea when this will be released?, I’ve held off watching Origins thus far but I’ll need a Stargate fix soon.
Any word on a Blu-ray release? I mean… yeah, it sucked, but my shelf is incomplete without it. :)
