If you’ve never seen 2018’s Stargate Origins, now is a good time to bite. The movie-length cut is now available for free on Freevee, Amazon’s ad-supported streaming service, in the United States.
Stargate Origins was originally released as a 10-part, short-form Web series, exclusive to MGM’s Stargate Command streaming platform. The feature cut — titled Stargate Origins: Catherine — followed that summer.
Set a decade after the Stargate’s discovery in Egypt, and just before the outbreak of World War II, Stargate Origins tells the story of Catherine Langford (Ellie Gall) — now a young woman, who runs afoul of the Nazis along with her archaeologist father.
Take a look at the trailer below.
Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Connor Trinneer (“Michael” on Stargate Atlantis) co-stars as Catherine’s father, alongside newcomers Philip Alexander, Shvan Aladdin, Daniel Rashid (playing a young Kasuf), Salome Azizi, and Aylam Orian.
The project never received a physical release and Stargate Command shut down in 2019, leaving Origins exclusively for sale on digital storefronts in its feature-length cut. With a Web-level budget and more inspiration drawn from the 1994 Stargate feature film than the television universe, Origins sometimes feels like an ambitious film school project.
MGM had intended to follow Catherine’s story with additional Web series centered on other characters elsewhere in the Stargate timeline, but instead shifted gears to work with original Stargate TV producer Brad Wright on a different project.
With the newly renamed “Amazon MGM Studios” now developing a brand new project for the franchise, it seems that Origins won’t ever be a series — leaving the low-budget prequel something of an anomaly in the history of the franchise.

Thanks, but not even for free.
I was all excited but they have not added this to the UK version of prime/freevee
I saw it, mainly because Conner Trinneer was in it, but wasn’t impressed.
I love Stargate, but this wasn’t worth the time, sadly. Not even for free!
