A brand new book chronicling the history of Stargate SG-1 is on the way, with a new title and a new publisher working to get the volume into the hands of fans. In Chevrons Locked: The Unofficial, Unauthorized Oral History of Stargate SG-1, author Edward Gross draws upon an extensive series of interviews to let the cast and crew tell the story of the venerable show in their own words.
Gross’s book was initially announced in 2021, to be published by Eaglemoss — the same company that was producing a new line of Stargate model ships under the “Hero Collector” label. But when Eaglemoss entered financial administration fans around the world worried about what would become of the models, and Gross’s book.
With Eaglemoss no longer a viable publisher for the project, Gross took it to a new outlet: NacelleBooks. The volume will be available May 2, and is up for pre-orders now at Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
From the publisher:
For over 25 years, the television show Stargate SG-1 has thrilled fans of sci-fi adventure, and that fandom is still thriving. From the landmark series SG-1, two spin-offs and a pair of made-for-video movies, as well as an animated show and a prequel web-series; Stargate has proven its reach is as far as the titular interstellar door-way. Chevrons Locked: The Unofficial, Unauthorized Oral History of Stargate SG-1, is the most comprehensive oral history of the franchise ever written, including interviews with many of the various series writers, directors, actors and more.
The change in publisher might ultimately end up better for the book. Eaglemoss planned to publish the work under official license from MGM — meaning the studio had oversight of its contents. Now Chevrons Locked will be released as an “unauthorized” biography of the show.
Edward Gross is a veteran entertainment journalist who has written for Starlog, Cinefantastique, SFX, Cinescape, Sci-Fi Now, and other genre publications. He has authored or co-authored (with Mark A. Altman) numerous oral histories including the landmark, 2-volume Star Trek series The Fifty-Year Mission, plus volumes on Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Superman, John Wick, and James Bond. He is currently senior editor at Geek magazine and the host of the podcasts “TV RetroVision” and “Voices from Krypton.”

Gross’s interviews include numerous cast and crew members, as well as fans — including yours truly, who has run GateWorld since its founding in 1999; and “Dial the Gate” host David Read, whose work as a content creator also includes GateWorld, Stargate Worlds, Propworx, and MGM’s official site Stargate Command (2017-2019).
Among those interviewed was Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright, whom Gross also recently welcomed for an appearance on his podcast. Check out “Voices From Krypton” for the 3-part conversation with Brad, covering everything from Stargate and Travelers to classic Star Trek and writing for television.
Fans can pre-order Chevrons Locked now at Amazon. The hardback volume is listed at $27.95 (£20.40). Read more about the new book in our 2021 conversation with Ed Gross, and stay tuned for more this spring!

Is this the same book that was “In Their Own Words”, the same author?
Yep! Same author, same book. It is an “oral history,” with chapters chiefly constructed of strategically arranged quotations.
Sorry, but I can’t not ask. Was the front cover illustration a goatse reference on purpose?
Lovely front cover but… where’s Jonas?
