Dragon Con is drawing closer, and so far five members of the Stargate family have been announced for the big comics, sci-fi, and fantasy fan convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dragon Con has been running since 1987 and is one of the biggest and highest regarded fan conventions in the U.S. This year’s event will take place over Labor Day weekend — August 31 through September 4, 2023.
Here’s the line-up of Stargate actors announced so far:
Jewel Staite
Dragon Con regular Jewel Staite is back in Atlanta this year. She played mechanic Kaylee Frye on Firefly before joining the cast of Stargate Atlantis, where she played Dr. Jennifer Keller for the show’s final two seasons.
Today Jewel stars on the Canadian legal drama Family Law, alongside fellow Stargate alum Victor Garber. The second season is currently airing on The CW in the United States.
Paul McGillion
Atlantis’s own Dr. Carson Beckett is also at Dragon Con this year! Paul McGillion played the beloved doctor throughout its run (you can’t keep a good doctor down), starting out as a recurring guest star before he was promoted to a series regular in Season Two.
His first Stargate appearance was actually on Stargate SG-1: he played the young Ernest Littlefield in the 1940s flashbacks in the first-season episode “The Torment of Tantalus.”
Paul recently put in a guest appearance on Family Law alongside his longtime friend Jewel Staite. You can also see him on Firefly Lane on Netflix.
David Nykl
Rounding out a trio of Atlantis doctors at this year’s Dragon Con is actor David Nykl, who played scientist Dr. Radek Zelenka on the show. Playing second fiddle to Rodney McKay didn’t stop Zelenka from quickly becoming a fan favorite, following his very first appearance early in the first season (“Thirty Eight Minutes”).
Since Stargate Atlantis went off the air in 2009 David has gone on to play the recurring role of Anatoly Knyazev on Arrow.
Gary Jones
The great Gary Jones has been a mainstay of Stargate since the very first episode of SG-1 aired back in 1997. And if you like classic sci-fi and fantasy you’ll see this recognizable Canadian actor on everything from Sliders to The Outer Limits to Highlander. But he won our hearts as the man behind the dialing computer, Chief Master Sergeant Walter Harriman.
Gary recently appeared on the Netflix horror fantasy show Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and hosting this special installment of the Stargate oral history show “Dial the Gate.”
Salli Richardson-Whitfield
Salli played an important role in the first season of Stargate SG-1: she was Teal’c’s wife, Drey’auc, in the episode “Bloodlines,” which saw Teal’c lead the team back to his home planet of Chulak to find his wife and son. The role was recast the next year when Richardson-Whitfield was unavailable, and from there she went on to co-star as Allison Blake on Eureka before becoming a prolific television director.

Chris Gauthier (Mattas and Hertis) will be at DragonCon too.
Is there a way to find out who is speaking when? I have been struggling to find an itinerary that includes guest speakers, it’s my first time.
