Stargate: Timekeepers Launch Has Been Delayed

It’s launch day for the long-awaited video game Stargate: Timekeepers … or at least it was supposed to be. Publisher Slitherine Games advises us that the discovery of a last-minute bug has delayed the launch.

The bug in question prevents players from progressing through the later stages of the game, which includes the first seven missions of a 14-mission story. Part 2, with missions 8 through 14, will be released as a free update early in 2024.

“Unfortunately, a major blocking bug surfaced in the past few hours while testing a release build,” a Slitherine rep posted on Steam. “This bug prevents players from progressing and impacts episodes 5 and 6. The team is working diligently to resolve it and will release the game as soon as possible.”

The publisher opted to fix the bug now, rather than release the game and have players unable to progress beyond a certain point until the patch is released.

Stargate: Timekeepers was first announced in May of 2021, as the franchise’s first real-time tactics PC title. Its arrival also aims to break something of a curse for Stargate video games: previous titles Stargate SG-1: The Alliance (a third-person console shooter) and Stargate Worlds (an MMO-RPG) never made it out of development, while Worlds spin-off Stargate: Resistance (an online-only action shooter) went offline after less than a year amidst legal and licensing issues.

Today the Timekeepers demo remains free to play on Steam, and consists of the game’s first level. Check it out while you wait for the full release, and keep it locked on GateWorld for updates.
