I can assure you, I’m not ready to give up my day job.
- General John P. Jumper, Air Force Chief of Staff, on praise for his performance from producers of Stargate SG-1, Colorado Springs Gazette, December 8, 2004
Stargate SG-1 has always maintained a close relationship with the United States Air Force. Early in the show’s run the Air Force joined on as military advisers, reviewing episode scripts. In later years they would even lend powerful airplanes.
In Season Four’s “Prodigy” Air Force Chief of Staff Michael E. Ryan made a cameo appearance as himself, in a scene with General Hammond and Colonel O’Neill. (“Got your hands full with that one, eh George?”) He was later followed by Air Force Chief of Staff General John P. Jumper, who played himself advising the President over the impending attack by Anubis in Season Seven’s “Lost City.”
In 2004, General Jumper honored Stargate SG-1 and actor Richard Dean Anderson for their positive depiction of the U.S. Air Force (story). Rick even received a set of General’s stars at the formal Air Force banquet.
