To help prepare you for the movie, we’ve assembled a short list of some key episodes from the past 11 years. While it’s not necessary to watch them all, they will help to refresh your memory on some key areas, so that you don’t wind up scratching your head about anything you see in the film.
1969
SG-1 Season Two, Episode 21
SG-1 is thrown 30 years into the past by a fluke astronomical event, and must use a solar flare to make their way home. This episode introduces the principle of solar flare-based time travel in the Stargate universe, and provides some back-story on the Stargate’s long journey from Giza to Colorado.
2010
SG-1 Season Four, Episode 16
In the near future, Earth is a member of the Aschen Confederation. The Aschen have brought peace and prosperity to Earth — but Sam Carter and her friends discover that they have radically cut the birthrate, planning to conquer the planet slowly over several generations. They use a solar flare to send a warning back in time, to themselves.
ABYSS
SG-1 Season Six, Episode 6
While host to a Tok’ra for a short time, Jack O’Neill is captured by the System Lord Baal — who tortures and kills him again and again, reviving him in a sarcophagus. This is where Jack and Baal first met, and laid the groundwork for their bitter relationship.
LOST CITY, PARTS 1 and 2
SG-1 Season Seven, Episodes 21-22
Newly elected President Hayes replaces General Hammond and temporarily shuts down the program. But when Anubis threatens to attack Earth directly, Jack O’Neill puts his life on the line and downloads an Ancient database into his brain — leading the team to Taonas, where they find a power source for an Ancient defense weapon in Antarctica.
RECKONING, PARTS 1 and 2
SG-1 Season Eight, Episodes 16-17
When the Replicators invade our galaxy, even the powerful Goa’uld System Lords cannot stand up to them. As his allies are decimated, Baal forges an alliance with Earth to stop the new threat.
EX DEUS MACHINA
SG-1 Season Nine, Episode 7
SG-1 is shocked when Baal turns up living on Earth, posing as a rising business mogul. He claims that he only wishes to be left in peace. This episode gave Baal intimate knowledge of Earth and human culture, and introduced the existence of his clones.
INSIDERS
SG-1 Season Ten, Episode 4
Using tracking devices Baal implanted in his clones, SG-1 tracks down and captures at least a dozen of them. But the clones have a plan of their own, stealing intel from the base computer and escaping. Here we not only see the clones in action, but learn just how Baal came to know some of the things that he knows. We also gain insight into Baal’s past relationship with Qetesh, the Goa’uld that once possessed Vala.
