  • For a future series of Stargate I personally would like one of two options:

1). A series set during the time of The Ancients.

2). A series set around now, with new characters but with the potential of seeing some familiar faces.

A new show can't just be a fan service and will need to attract new viewers. For that reason a show which just continues on the story of SGA and/or SGU at this stage wouldn't work.

I've seen some discussions about maybe characters from SG-1 & SGA could band together and go off to save the crew of the Destiny. At this stage I don't think that sort of thing should be on the cards. I'd personally hate if that happened anyway as to me the most interesting thing about SGU was the mission of the Destiny and why The Ancients launched it in the first place. I'd hate that to be ignored or overlooked in order to bring those characters back to Earth.

Though I do hope if a new show is successful some sort of resolution for SGU is looked at again. Perhaps in a separate mini-series or TV movie.

Anyway for my first option I think there is a lot of possibilities storyline wise. We could explore the early days of the gate system (perhaps even the invention of the Stargate), the early research of ascension, the alliance of the four great races and even just what day to day life was like for the Ancients before the plague. There is still a lot of mystery there.

Though I think the more likely option and what I believe is the preference of Brad Wright: A show set in the here and now.

My main concern with that option though is how advanced humanity became towards the end of SG-1 & SGA. We're at the technological stage where we're no longer the underdogs. We can't really realistically make it a show set close to real life anymore like SG-1 and in many ways SGA were when they started.

The one possible exception in my mind which could work and make that a non-issue would be a show which reveals the existence of the Stargate to the public. The ramifications of that would be interesting to see. It would also would be useful tool for new viewers as we could see news reports or meetings etc which would fill-in most of what they need to know about the back story.

  • It needs to be present day.. its needs to be military sci-fi and they need to at least take into account the history of the Stargate program. Abandoning it at this stage will just cause mayhem.

But I agree, whatever it is needs to be able to stand on its own two feet.
