The new Stargate video game is finally ready for its big debut, with a public showcase set for this Thursday, July 27 — which also happens to be Stargate SG-1‘s twenty-sixth anniversary.
Game publisher Slitherine announced that a livestream event dedicated to Stargate: Timekeepers will take place on Twitch following its regular “Tea Time” livestream show. The showcase is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am Pacific time (11:30 am Eastern). That’s 3:30 pm GMT, and 4:30 pm in London.
The livestream will introduce the game’s characters and mission settings, along with new gameplay of one entire mission. Fans can expect a new trailer, and hopefully that elusive launch date. They will also be able to sign up for a new round of beta testing for the game.
“Be ready,” the announcement reads, the gate is almost open.”
Stargate: Timekeepers is a real-time tactics game for PC, first announced in May of 2021. We’re currently anticipating that the game will be published later this year, though no date has been announced. The publisher showed off the first gameplay footage in December 2021:
The game’s story promises a time-travelling romp through SG-1‘s timeline, with its starting point in the aftermath of the Battle of Antarctica (that’s the climactic battle with Anubis in the seventh season finale, “Lost City”). Players will guide a team of original characters, under the leadership of Commander Eva McCain.
The game features both familiar and original tech, plus species such as Hak’tyl Jaffa and the Unas. The story introduces a new Goa’uld System Lord, named Dolus. The story will unfold over 14 missions (or “episodes”), each of which Slitherine says will take experienced players more than an hour on average to complete.
Timekeepers has seen some delays since entering beta testing in 2022, chiefly in order to iron out its presentation of the story and characters. Last spring Slitherine said that it anticipated the game would be out in July, but in a recent update marketing director Marco Minoli noted that the game’s development is requiring them to delay that a bit.
“Narratively we’re trying to tell a story that’s complicated, and articulated in a way that you guys get to know the characters and their relationships and how they interact with each other,” Minoli said. “And doing that is taking longer than expected — just because at Slitherine we’ve never been much involved in telling complex stories. … It’s new to us, and it’s important to us to get it right.” The company’s previous strategy games have been heavy on tactics and world building, but lighter on narrative.
He also showed off some brand new images from the game’s mission scenarios (including what looks to be a Space Moose!):
Last week Minoli said that the game’s missions are largely complete and playable today, and that the additional development time is currently focusing on story-related elements like animations and voiceover recording. “We want to be true to the IP, 100%,” he said. “And being true to Stargate means that we have a responsibility in telling stories of these characters. And that’s why the game has suffered [delays].”
Stargate: Timekeepers is being developed by Poland-based CreativeForge Games, along with the newly formed Warsaw studio Slitherine Poland. Wishlist it now on Steam.

Oh goodie. A video game. Big deal.
And yet you took your time to talk about it π
Reminds me a bit of the brilliant Star Trek away team, so it could be good, may check it out if the gameplay looks good on launch. It’s still really disappointing to think of all the missed chances with the other Stargate Games we could and SHOULD have had. But end of the day it’s better than nothing, hopefully it does well enough that it opens the door to future projects, I do worry that the audience for Real Time Tactics games like this is going to be quite limited, hopefully that doesn’t work against us getting future RPG or… Read more Β»
