GateWorld Podcast: Open Line Night!

Visit the GateWorld Podcast page for more about the show!

The GateWorld Podcast is back! We’re getting ready for the final 10 episodes of Stargate Universe, starting this Monday on Syfy Channel (Tuesday on SPACE in Canada).

This week we’re opening up the phone lines to hear what you have to say about Destiny and it’s A.I., ratings and measuring all viewers, interfacing the human mind with Ancient technology, traveling in stasis, and ending the show on a cliffhanger. We’ll also discuss what we’d like to see from the future of the franchise, including movies for SGU, Atlantis, and SG-1. There are lots of listener comments on that subject … and all this is just for starters!

Join the Discussion! Watch this week’s new episode of SGU, “Deliverance,” and then call into the GateWorld Podcast Hotline with your reactions.

  • People clearly don't know how the industry works. They are quick to blame syfy for cancelling the show...

  • This has all happened before. First, a much loved show with strong characters, chemistry, and stories - and consequently beloved by fans (Star Trek : The Next Generation / Stargate SG-1). Then, effectively a carbon copy that tries to go back to the well, and despite having some very good aspects only partially succeeds (SGA, Voyager).

Finally, the producers decide what we actually want is a reimagining. Let's put the show we fell in love with behind us, and instead let's revamp it for a younger audience (Enterprise / SGU). Enterprise killed the Trek TV franchise, and frankly SGU has killed the Stargate franchise. In both cases it was due to the producers opting to ignore the clear preference of their viewership; instead of redoubling their efforts to capture the lightning in a bottle that was SG-1, they decide we actually want something different. By and large, we don't. I don't even see SGU as being Stargate; it is indeed Stargate In Name Only (SINO).

I hope we get the chance to see the original team in action one more time in the form of one more SG-1 movie, but I fear the franchise is probably done - and for me, it will have ended with "Continuum". Continuing the analogy, seeing the end of SG-1 was for me like watching "All good things..." all over again - a bittersweet goodbye to friends, people you've come to know and love. These goodbyes are always sad moments, but as a very wise man once said, if nothing ever ends, nothing can ever get started.

  • I am going to be dead serious. I do not know if the SGU writers will ever read this but if they do, I, along with many of my friends, love stargate. But what is confusing is how this show SGU is meant to be directed to people in my age group. Yes I am 16 currently a junior in high school, and No I do not really like what you did with SGU. Although my opinion my not be heard or considered, I do not believe TV should be about drama but how it was on the older shows like SG-1. But now I see one of my favorite franchises coming to an end and I can only say you guys had a chance to keep your old viewers and your new ones (me and my friends) if you stuck with what made your shows original and exciting. If you guys ever have the chance after this day to make a new series or movie, Please don't make the same mistake.

  • Ta dam tam ta dam...'Yesterday and day before'
'There's a calm before the storm'
    'I know!!1'
'I've been waiting for some time'

  • isn't destiny a hundred thousand years old? but its been said several times that atlantis is ten thousand years old in sga

  • @professorhenryjonesjr

I thought enterprise was excellent, it felt like a star trek series to me...but SGU didn't and that was the problem. People felt alienated.
