Episode of the Week: ‘Intervention’

As Destiny‘s crew continues to battle Lucian Alliance soldiers over control of the ship, T.J. finds herself and her baby transported to a safe place.

“Intervention” Facts:

• Behind-the-scenes factoid: Principle photography on Season Two of SGU began on March 10 — a few weeks later than Stargate‘s traditional February start date, due to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
• Writing out T.J.’s unborn baby in such a grisly way was necessitated by actress Alaina Huffman‘s real-life pregnancy — since the writers of the show didn’t want to add a baby to Destiny‘s population (as they had with Teyla’s child on Atlantis). But the episode leaves the child’s fate on an ambiguous note, as T.J. is left with some hope that powerful aliens might have saved the child and spirited her away to Caine’s planet. (It would be confirmed several episodes later that the child had not, in fact survived.)
• Long-time Stargate fans were pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face summoned from Earth to help conduct surgery via the communication stones: Actress Alisen Down reprises her role as Dr. Brightman, who was first introduced back in SG-1‘s “Lockdown” and then turned up on SGU in Season One’s “Divided.”
• Collective sigh: After more than 13 years of continuous production, “Intervention” marks the final season premiere for the Stargate franchise … so far.
