GateWorld Podcast: ‘Air’ Parts 1 and 2

Visit the GateWorld Podcast page for more about the show!

The third Stargate television series has arrived! In this week’s podcast we’ll run down the first two hours of Stargate Universe and tell you what we thought of the show now that we have finally seen it. We’ll also discuss the introductions of all of the main characters, that controversial sex scene, and speculate a bit about the characters’ motivations. And we’ll hear what you think of “Air” Parts 1 and 2 in this week’s Listener Mail!

The newest segment of the podcast is Quibbles! This is where Darren and David feebly attempt to poke holes, nitpick, and ask high-concept geek questions that can only result in people pointing and laughing at us.

  • This is technically the fourth Stargate television series. The other one that most people prefer to forget about is Stargate Inifinity.

  • I would like to give my opinion on the chevrons in sgu. I think that they act as a sort of bar-code eg. when the glyph is chosen the chevron is told what it is then it connects to the orb reads what it is and locks it in. But that is just my opinion.
BTW good podcast have been with it since the start and will keep on doing it as long as you keep making it.

  • You know what made me laugh out loud a few times since SGU premiered? The SG community getting all worked up about "FTL" being used on the show. How dare they use that term as it is clearly from Battlestar!

Could I point out that RDA himself tells Eli in the first few minutes of the episode that they are "going to beam him up to their spaceship."

Why no indignation for such clear usage of Star Trek terms?

You do the same on the podcast. First you discuss the usage of the term FTL, then later you talk about how cool it was for Eli to be "beamed up."

  • How does time dilation figure? That could explain the age disparity between Destiny and Atlantis. On the other hand, if you accept time dilation, then years could have already passed on Earth.

  • Time dilation you say hmmmm that might be to much for the newbies to take in all at once, don't wanna make all the "new fans" heads explode lol

  • With rgds to Dr. Rush's comment on the age of the Destiny, on the observation deck, he'd only been on board for less than 15 minutes! I believe he was talking out loud rather than to Scott and Eli and not putting any 'educated' thought to what he was saying. I believe this Stargate and the Destiny are as old as the Milky Way Stargate system, prior to plague.

N.B.Opps! They did not get the nine symbols from the database.
Dr. Rush told Eli they knew the eight symbols for years and assumed the ninth was this planets origin from the Ancient database!

    Thanks for the awesome podcast,
    Take it Easy!

  • Thanks for the correction, daxmaryrussel. In the future you can just e-mail webmaster -at- gateworld.net and let me know, and I'll fix it right up.

  • As for FTL, that was invented way before BSG in various Sci-Fi books. It's really just become a generic term for what it means, 'faster than light' travel. Besides, how else are you going to describe it???
