PRODUCTION NOTES

  • "Like most season finales, this one will be big – but very, very different." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
  • "Looks like tomorrow will be a doozy that will see 'The Last Man' wrapping late, late, late – or early, early, early depending on how you look at it. On tap: triage, battle action, on the bridge of the Phoenix." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
  • "I joined Marty G. and Paul for a special screening of 'The Last Man' director's cut. A great season-ender (and a bit of a tearjerker – I defy you not to cry or feel sad or pity or slightly dizzy) with a final shot that will have fandom buzzing from final fade to the opening shot of season five." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
  • "Watched the Day One Mix of 'The Last Man,' our Season Four finale. Great, great episode – and one that will surely have fans pulling their hair out when those final credits roll. Hopefully, they won't have to wait too long for the Season Five premiere – or there could be a riot. I love these types of time travel episodes in which the ultimate fate of our beloved characters are foretold – some telling, others tragic, all touching. The last few episodes of Season Four should come with a 3-hanky alert." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
  • Richard Woolsey takes over as base commander in the fifth season of Stargate Atlantis – though that wasn't yet planned when he appears in command in this episode. "Unfortunately, the fact that we look so brilliant was quite by accident. At the time 'The Last Man' was produced, we were assuming that Carter would still be commanding the Atlantis expedition in Season Five. So, it wasn't so much foreshadowing as an interesting coincidence.

"As for any of the sad elements in Rodney's timeline actually happening. Hmmmm." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
  • "Jennifer's death isn't the only reason Rodney decides to try to undo the timeline. But it is the final straw. Prior to that, he considered the possibility that he could actually come up with a solution next to impossible. But, with Jennifer dead, the last positive thing in his life died with her and he was finally able to wholly commit himself to the seemingly impossible task." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
